Itinerary

Upon your arrival in Paro, go through customs and immigration, ensuring you have your visa clearance letter. No passport-sized photos are required, as your visa fees have already been settled. Meet your guide and driver outside the terminal building and transfer to Thimphu. Spend the evening exploring the city.

After breakfast, embark on a journey to explore Thimphu valley. Begin with a visit to Trashichhoe Dzong, a captivating medieval fortress/monastery that houses most of the Government's offices and the King's Throne room. It also serves as the summer residence of Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot. Explore the National Library with its vast collection of ancient Buddhist texts, followed by a visit to the Arts & Crafts School, renowned for traditional thangkha paintings. Witness students creating intricate designs on cloth. Later, explore the Textile and Folk Heritage Museums, offering a fascinating glimpse into Bhutanese material culture and living traditions. After lunch, visit the Handicrafts Emporium showcasing a wide array of beautifully hand-woven and crafted products. Proceed to the Memorial Chorten, a stupa honoring Bhutan's Third King, often regarded as the Father of Modern Bhutan. The paintings and statues inside this monument provide profound insights into Buddhist philosophy. In the late afternoon, drive to Punakha via Dochula pass (3,080m).

Start the day with a visit to Punakha Dzong, strategically located at the confluence of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, this dzong has served as the religious and administrative center of the region. Despite damage from fires and an earthquake, the dzong has been fully restored. Drive to Wangdiphodrang, visiting the dzong and local market. Wangdiphodrang is renowned for its bamboo products, slate, and stone carvings. After lunch, head to Paro with a brief stop at Dochula pass. En route, visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in the Kingdom, built in 1627 and now housing the School for Buddhist studies.

Following breakfast, embark on an excursion to Taktsang Monastery, the iconic Bhutanese monastery known as the "Tiger's Nest." According to legend, Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated, giving the monastery its name. The round-trip journey takes approximately 5 hours. In the afternoon, visit Ta Dzong, the National Museum of the Kingdom, originally built as a Watch Tower. Since 1967, it has served as the National Museum, housing a captivating collection of art, artifacts, thangkha paintings, and Bhutan’s exquisite postage stamps. Take a walk down the trail to visit Rinpung Dzong, with its long and fascinating history.

After breakfast, drive to the airport for your onward flight. Depart Paro with cherished memories of your Bhutanese journey.
