Situated on a rock basin amidst the stunning Annapurna Himalayan range at an altitude of 4,950 meters, Tilicho Lake is formed by the melting glaciers and snow-capped peak of Thorang La. The trekking trail of Tilicho Base Camp with Annapurna Round mirrors the renowned Annapurna Circuit Trek, weaving through charming villages rich in traditional culture, ancient history, and vibrant festivals like Grand Yartung. Each village along the route showcases well-managed houses adorned with typical domestic produce, reflecting the authentic taste of Nepal.

 

Commencing from Besishahar at 820 meters in the Lamjung district of Nepal’s western region, the trek follows the scenic Marshyangdi river valley. The journey unfolds panoramic views of Manaslu and Himchuli in the eastern horizon during the initial days. Progressing through picturesque villages like Jagat, Tal, Chame, Upper Pisang, Manang, Khangsar, Yak Kharka, and Mukatinath, the trail leads to the captivating Tilicho Lake from Khangsar. The ascent to Thorang La Pass at 5,416 meters, the world’s second-longest and challenging pass, offers a life-changing experience. The descent leads to Muktinath, a revered pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, adorned with the allure of Mukatinath temple, 108 water spouts, Buddhist monasteries, and the unique rain shadow areas of Nepal.

Following the trail along the Kali Gandaki River, the journey concludes in Jomsom, the headquarters of Mustang District. The trek concludes with a scenic flight back to Pokhara from Jomsom, completing this remarkable adventure through the diverse landscapes and cultural tapestry of the Annapurna region.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, our representative from Ambassador Himalaya Treks will be waiting for you outside the Arrival gate with a personalized name card. Our team will warmly welcome you and assist with collecting your baggage. After a formal introduction with the representative, you will be transferred to your hotel. During this initial meeting, our representative will provide a brief overview of the trekking preparations. You will also have a short gathering with your trekking guide and support staff. In the evening, you can enjoy a complimentary welcome dinner featuring authentic Nepali cuisine at a typical Nepali restaurant.

Begin your day with an early morning breakfast as you embark on a 238-kilometer Jeep drive from Kathmandu to Chame via Besisahar. The first 173 kilometers cover a smooth blacktop road, taking approximately 6 hours, while the remaining 65 kilometers present a rough road from Besisahar to Chame, requiring about 5 hours. The highway runs alongside the Tishuli River, connecting various villages. Enjoy the scenic journey, observing human settlements, lush landscapes, farmlands with diverse crops, waterfalls, and glimpses of rafting in the Tirshuli River.

After breakfast, embark on a hike from Chame to Upper Pisang, the district headquarters of Manang. The trek begins with a mix of gentle slopes and flat terrain, passing through pine forests and small Gurung villages. Cross a suspension bridge over the Marsyangdi River and continue the trek, encountering an apple farm at Bhratang. After about 3 to 4 hours of walking, take a rest at Dhukurpokhari, offering a panoramic view of Swargadwari, a rock formation resembling a huge slide. Continue the ascent towards Upper Pisang, taking approximately 2 to 3 hours. Upon reaching Upper Pisang, visit the monasteries and enjoy stunning views of Annapurna II and IV, with Annapurna facing northwest and the Marsyangdi River below.

Enjoy an early morning breakfast in Pisang before embarking on an 8 to 9-hour trek to Manang. The trail passes through small villages like Ngawal and Ghyaru, offering views of ancient houses and temples in Ghyaru village. Enjoy scenic mountain views, including Mt. Annapurna II, III, Gangapurna, Chulu, and Tilicho Peak. Reach Humde Valley, one of the higher valleys in the Annapurna circuit, showcasing a unique wall with 266 wheels. Pass through the heart of the village, encountering a police station and a checkpoint for permits. Manang is known for its well-managed shops, gear stores, health posts, and restaurants. Explore the town's semi-Tibetan culture, visit Bodzo Gompa on the hilltop, and enjoy attractions like Chhongkor Viewpoint and Praken Gompa for a 360-degree view of the mountain range.

Spend the day acclimatizing in Manang, known for its well-managed facilities and attractions like Bodzo Gompa. Explore the town's semi-Tibetan culture, witness the unique wall with 266 wheels, and enjoy the views of Mt. Annapurna III. Optionally, take a short hike to Chhongkor Viewpoint and Praken Gompa for a panoramic view of the Chulu range, Annapurna II, IV, Pisang Peak, Tilicho Himal, Gangapurna Mountain, Gangapurna Lake, and the glacier.

After breakfast, prepare for a two-day trek to Tilicho Lake, the world's highest altitude lake. Trek to Khangsar, a small village dominated by Manangese Tibetan descendants, 1.5 hours from Manang. Continue to Shri Kharka for lunch, enjoying panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges. The trek becomes adventurous, passing through landslide areas and narrow trails with hanging bridges. After 2 to 3 hours of trekking, reach Tilicho Base Camp, where you'll find a few hotels.

Embark on an early trek to Tilicho Lake, taking 3 to 4 hours of gentle and steep ascent. Enjoy breathtaking views before descending to Yak Kharka at 4,050 meters. The trail passes through alpine vegetation, damaged remnants of the old Khangsar village, and a wood bridge connecting Yak Kharka and Gumsang. Enjoy the stunning view of Mt. Annapurna III from Yak Kharka.

Choose to stay in Thorang La Phedi or High Camp based on your preferences and prior trekking experience. The trek to Thorang La Phedi takes around an hour from Yak Kharka. The trail passes through Tenki Manang, offering views of the Marsyangi Valley. Trek through alpine vegetation, the remains of the damaged Khangsar village, and a wood bridge connecting Yak Kharka and Gumsang. Thorang La Phedi lies at the base of Thorong Himal. Trekking above 4,000 meters could be exhausting. The day ends with a trek to Thorang La Phedi at the base of Thorong La Pass.

Cross Thorang La Pass, the world's second-highest pass at 5,416 meters. Begin the trek early, around 4 am, to avoid strong winds. The pass offers incredible views, and you'll have time to play with snow and capture memorable photographs. Descend towards Muktinath, a famous religious site for both Hindus and Buddhists. Muktinath is situated in the Mustang district, known as a rain shadow area and the desert of Nepal.

Explore Muktinath, known as the "Queen of Pilgrims' Shelter," and visit the Muktinath temple, a renowned religious site for both Hindus and Buddhists. Begin the trek downhill to Jomsom, following the Kalagandaki River. The trek offers majestic views of the Annapurna and Thkuche mountain ranges. Jomsom, the headquarters of the Mustang District, is the most advanced and largest village in the Round Annapurna. Strong winds blow in Jomsom during mid-day. Purchase apples and apple-related products from Jomsom.

Overnight stay at Jomsom

Have an early morning breakfast before taking a mountain flight back to Pokhara. The flight provides scenic views of snow-capped mountain ranges. Spend the day exploring Phewa Lake and Devi's Fall in Pokhara.

Complete the trek and drive back to Kathmandu from the beautiful lake city of Pokhara. The drive takes around 7 to 8 hours. Alternatively, you can travel by air, which takes approximately 25 minutes.
